Whether you know you’re having a boy or are waiting to be surprised, make sure to talk with your pediatrician ahead of time so you feel informed and comfortable with your options.

What is circumcision?

When your baby boy is born, he has a foreskin that covers the end of his penis. Circumcision surgically removes this foreskin, exposing the tip of the penis. This is a common procedure usually performed by a doctor in the first few days after birth.

Reasons you may choose circumcision

Some parents decide to circumcise their baby for the medical benefits. Others choose circumcision for religious, social, or cultural reasons.

For more information on how to prepare for circumcision, details of the surgery, and aftercare instructions, please ask your Mosaic pediatrician or go to the American Academy of Pediatrics website.

If you choose NOT to circumcise, make sure to discuss how to keep your baby’s uncircumcised penis clean with your pediatrician as well as how to follow basic hygiene.
