Clementine’s Story: Finding Hope, Together

Oct 2, 2026

Clementine sits between her mother and a Mosaic Community Health provider during a conversation at a clinic. For Clementine, starting middle school at the end of the pandemic was a difficult time. School felt unsafe, family conflict intensified, and an eating disorder became a way to find a sense of control and belonging.

“Before I got admitted into treatment, it was constant fighting almost every day,” said Clementine. “I was not in the right mindset and so I would fight with everyone in my family. It was just a mess.”

Her family was exhausted and afraid for Clementine. Her mother Sara recalls taking care of her 24/7, including checking on her throughout the night to make sure she was okay.

Eating disorders can be complex and potentially life-threatening conditions—they carry the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness, with consequences that can last decades. There is no quick fix and no medication that cures it. Recovery is slow and rarely a straight line, requiring frequent support, careful monitoring and a team that can respond quickly when needs change.

Pediatric Eating Disorder Care in Central Oregon

Clementine and her family were able to get that crucial care all in one place. Through Mosaic’s Redmond High School-Based Health Center, they found specialized pediatric eating disorder care through Mosaic’s Pediatric Eating Disorder Clinic.

Instead of multiple appointments with a dietitian, a doctor and a therapist across separate offices and costing precious time, the Mosaic team has built a model where families spend an afternoon together seeing all three clinicians at once. Before and after each visit, the team huddles to share progress, challenges and goals.

For Clementine and her family, that coordinated care changed everything. Small victories, like finishing a bowl of cereal or a glass of milk, became huge accomplishments. Slowly her personality returned along with her weight. Today, her mother describes the Mosaic team as more than medical providers; they have become part of the family.

“I’ve found a lot of people who support me,” Clementine shared. “I know I’m not alone.”

Not only has her eating disorder improved, but so has Clementine’s relationship with her family. Her story reflects what compassionate, coordinated care can make possible: recovery, connection and hope for the future.
